Paul was born on October 15, 1939 to the late Rev. William T. Shannon and Nancy Shannon. He is also preceded in death by brother, Bob Shannon and brother-in-law Raymond Cowan.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Donna (Beane) Shannon, daughters Tawney (Mark) Parsley of Charlotte, NC and Nikki (Ritchie) Boggs of Charleston, WV. Additionally, he is survived by sister, Ruth Cowan, brother, John (Jean Ann) Shannon, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Rita Kay (Beane) Mack & Dr. Hobert Mack. Paul has five grandchildren that he was so very proud of: Blake Parsley (fiancé Mary Kendall Durrance) of Atlanta, GA, Shannon (Russell) Martin of Los Angeles, CA, MacKayla Boggs of Charleston, WV, (Josh Mena), Austin Parsley of Charlotte, NC, and Parker Boggs of Charleston, WV; and two great-grandchildren that he adored: Avery & Eli Mena; and many nieces and nephews.
He is a graduate of East Bank High School, attended Trevecca Nazarene College and a Veteran of the Air Force. Paul was a branch manager for Machinery Inc. before becoming a fully licensed insurance agent with Nationwide Insurance. He served as President of his local Rotary Club and previously was President of Sleepy Hollow Golf Club. After retirement from Nationwide Insurance Paul and his wife relocated to warmer weather in Manning, South Carolina to fulfill his love of playing golf for 24 years. They returned to WV in 2019.
Paul was a member of Davis Creek Church of the Nazarene for many years where he served as Minister of Music. Upon returning to WV in 2019 he attended and was welcomed at South Charleston First Church of the Nazarene. Paul had a love for Gospel music, he was a member of The Celebration Trio with his dear friends Paul & Linda Smith for many years, traveling up and down the east coast. Many knew Paul for “Paul’s Promotions” and his love of Southern Gospel music by promoting concerts in South Carolina and West Virginia.
A Memorial Service to Honor Paul’s Life will be held at 4:00pm on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at South Charleston First Church of the Nazarene. Visitation for friends and family will begin 2 hours prior to the service, from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Paul’s final resting place will be at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery at a later date with a private family committal service.
