George was a friend & wonderful human, who cared much for others. Many years ago when soortscards became popular, many of us, unplanned, would make the rounds to the many card shops in the area. All the folks knew George,, who was an avid collector & trader. His human qualities I admired so much.
I met Michael a couple of times & the love for each other was quite evident.
Miss you my friend & know you are at piece, even if way too early.

George and I were very good friends for many years, we worked together and fished together for many years. He sure was gifted playing the drums and organ for the Esquires I think of him often REST IN PEACE GEORGE KENNY. 

Great friend, stellar human who stood for kindness & integrity. Had many discussions & meetings at ball card shops. Enjoyed listening to his bragging on Michael.

I had the pleasure of having both of his grandchildren in my fourth grade class.  The love and dedication Mack had for these two was limitless.  He was always so proud of them! I always enjoyed hearing his stories and listening to him brag about their accomplishments.  He would do anything he could to help those around him as well.  

Michael and Katie - I hope that you both will find peace in knowing that he will still be your biggest fan and cheering you on from heaven.  I love and miss you both.  Sending hugs and prayers to you.

I will never forget all the memories at wrestling events. We always seemed to talk off the mat. He always joked i was his relitive but we couldnt seem to find out if we was related, but i had a connection with Ref. Keeney. I will miss him, many people will miss him. Love All ......Jon Keeney.    

Oh my how sad. Everyone loved Mack. Sending my heartfelt condolences to Becky and all of his family.  I was Phyllis' friend and former co worker.

George and I were long time friends.  We played in softball tournaments at Myrtle Beach and Virginia Beach.  He will be missed 
in wrestling and all other events.

When I think of George and what he thought was  important,  " its for the kids " not sure how many times we talked about that, may he Rest in Peace 

“The Squeezer,” as I called him, was like a father figure to me in many ways for several years of my childhood.   He bought me my first baseball glove, took me to my first midnight movie at cinema 7, “Action Jackson” which at the time was way past my bedtime.  He was the first person to let me sit on his lap and steer the wheel.  Taught me it was ok  to tell a girl she had “nice jeans.”   Taught me how to keep rhythm with the music by hitting the dashboard of the car.  He’d let me stay over at his place some nights to watch movies and he’d always give me some fishing lures from his “ungodly” collection.  All the kids on my gymnastics team loved it when he came to competitions because he’d wrestle with us all and throw us in the foam pits.  The list goes on and on of great memories.  Mack was a huge positive influence in my life as he was to so many.  I’m so grateful I got to tell him how I truly felt about him and all he did for me when we met up last year.  You’ll never be forgotten, Squeezer.   Love you!   -JayBird

     Mr. George Keeney was the "Official's Official" on the mats in West Virginia, and he also developed some of the most dedicated and outstanding wrestling officials in the Mountain State.  Even more important than that, he cared deeply for all the athletes he came in contact with for over half a century.   I have always cherished his friendship.  George Keeney was a true man of character who cared so much about his family, loved his country, and always thanked God for all his blessings.  The West Virginia Wrestling Community will never forget his many contributions to the mat sport and the wrestlers he was so dedicated to and loved with all his heart. 

My sincerest condolences to George's family. George was a fantastic person and friend. He spoke and shared frequently about his faith. He was an ambassador and strong advocate of the sport of wrestling. George mentored many student athletes and officials including myself. He constantly demonstrated what true sportsmanship looks like. When George and I would travel to officiate matches we frequently discussed his love for his family and later his love for his grandkids, who were dear to his heart. George will be missed by many. I have truly lost a brother. May we meet again in heaven. 

George was a close friend of mine for many years at work and fishing we always enjoyed each others friendship. He will be deeply missed rest in peace BIG GEORGE .


When I began my high school coaching career, George was one of the very first officials to venture to our county from the board he was associated with. Once, we had a home dual in front of our student body and he took his time away from just doing the match but to educate our students how scoring took place. Love you man, RIP 

One of the last tournaments George refereed was the 2014 Jr. States in Parkersburg.  I always enjoyed his company.  I am not sure who the young man in the photo is.  I think he is from Calhoun County.  - Brent Sams, Parkersburg, WV

I didn’t know him very well but no doubt a huge loss to the wrestling community. 

On behalf of the Woods family we want to offer our deepest regrets on hearing of George's passing to Heaven.  I knew George as a coach, fellow official and great friend for over 48 years.  We spent many weekends together officiating.  When our son Andrew died in a car accident in 2012 George's reassuring prayer with Debbie and me meant more than anyone could ever know.  Yes, he was a great official --but --a much greater person!!  I will miss him and hope someday to be together again.

He was such an amazing person. I grew up in wrestling with him being my referee at many tournaments. We met each other again last year after years of not seeing one another. We sat mat-side watching the finals matches together and sharing laughs during the whole finals round. One thing I could always count on was a stick of gum. He’d always carry gum in his pocket. George was a one of a kind person.  He never met a stranger and was loyal to the ones around him.  He will be missed by all and he was so proud of the two grandkids.  The wrestling officials and community have lost a very special person who touched so many people.  George-there are many who loved you and you will be missed-RIP my friend.

George was always willing to share with his friends about collecting sports cards.  He was very passionate about them for sure.  We traded, bought, and sold sports cards with each other many times over the years.  He was always bragging about his grandchildren as well when we talked over the phone or in person.  My friend George was a great mentor to me with his love for God, family, and friends. George - You are missed but never forgotten! Love you buddy!

George invited to do the wsaz tournament which I enjoyed tremendously. That changed my career where I started doing tournaments all over the state.  Thank you George I will miss you very much and so won’t the rest of the wrestling community and so won’t all referees.  God Bless you George

Mack was a great human being. Having known him for several years through softball and officiating  with him ,I have never met a better person !! We have had alot of laughs over the years. I will for one miss him!! Rest in peace brother!!





Mack was one of my best friends, all the way back to childhood. We played in 2 soul bands together and spent countless hours in the rec room at his house. My deepest sympathies go out to Becky, Joe Bill, and the entire family. 

George became an uncle to our boys and a family friend. He has touched our life on and off the mat.  A mam bigger than life. He shares so much. The Easters

Loved his passion and love of wrestling. We stayed friends over the years and every time he saw me, he told me I had a reserved seat with him at the states.

This memory will always be with me! Tiffany and Dom came to AJ to watch our JA jv team play. Dom's first game watching daddy coach and he sat with George for the longest time chewing that hoodie string and enjoying that win. George was a great man and was loved by everyone that had been blessed to meet him! 

George had a profound impact on my life as a friend and fellow wrestling referee beginning 40 years ago! As he did many others I’m sure. He was a always so positive and a great leader. One of a kind there will never be another George Keeney! 

George was a wonderfully optimistic person who was proud of his family and loved all his interactions with people.  He'll be missed for his upbeat spirit and love of life!

So sorry for your loss.  Uncle Mack was filled with so much fun and love for his nephews (by previous marriage) Ryan and Chad,  in their early years.  They loved him dearly! RIP
