Born and reared in the Wyoming County, WV town of Tams to her parents, Roberta and Robert Henry Branch, Exa A. Branch the family lived in the small coal mining community until 1949, the year in which she graduated from Byrd Prillerman High School.
The family relocated to the Kanawha Valley and she enrolled at West Virginia State College, where she met and married James “Jack” Johnson in the fall of 1950. To that union were born five children.
In 1965 she united in marriage to J. Lee Madison and for the next 30 years they enjoyed life and golf and his garden together.
Across 50 years she was a worthy coworker to many at the James Produce Company, the C&P Telephone Company, West Virginia State College, Smith Transfer, AT&T, Sam’s Wholesale, and Cracker Barrel. Exa never met a stranger and her personality was such that people gravitated to her.
Her children will gather together at 12 noon on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at the Levi First Missionary Baptist Church in Rand to celebrate all that she gave to them and to her community.
Viewing will begin at 11:00 AM the same morning.
