Bill was born in Putney on December 4, 1928 to the late John Lewis Clay and Mary Goldie Huffman Clay. Bill was retired from Valley Camp Coal Company after many years of service, and enjoyed working in his garage repairing cars and trucks in his spare time. He also enjoyed hunting, watching westerns, and listening to country music. Most of all, Bill loved spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his son, Perry Dennis Clay; an infant son, Timothy Wayne Clay; his sister, Madge Shamblin; and his brothers, Robert Clay and John Clay.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of almost 58 years, Ruth Ambrose Clay; his son, Daniel Wayne Clay of the home; his daughter, Amy Sue Bush and his son-in-law, Timothy Bush, of Charleston; his daughter-in-law, Jamie Clay, of Campbells Creek; his grandchildren, Katie Bush and Dustin, Mandie, and William Clay. Bill is also survived by his sister, Phyllis Young and husband, Edward, of Mammoth; and his brother, Tom Clay and wife, Linda, of Sissonville.
The funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 31, 2016, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with the Rev. Fred Christian officiating. The burial will follow in the White Cemetery at Ten Mile, Campbells Creek.
The visitation with family and friends will be one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the funeral home.
