Obituary of Robert "Robbie" Howard Morris III
Robert Howard Morris III, 48, of Amherst, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, February 15, 2012. He was born in Harrisonburg, VA, on June 19, 1963, to the late Robert “Bob” Howard Morris Jr. and Kathleen Clowers Morris. “Robbie” is survived by his wife, Penelope “Penny” Hazel Gunter Morris, to whom he was married for 19 years. “Robbie” is also survived by his four beautiful children, Caleb Mathew Morris, 22, who is in the US Marines, Cherry Point, NC, Thomas Heath Morris, 21, who is in the US Navy, Jacksonville, Fl, Seth Anderson Morris, 17, of Amherst, VA and his baby girl, Judith Elaine Morris, 12, also of Amherst. “Robbie” is also survived by his sisters, Sue Morris Biser, of Montebello, VA, Elaine Morris Burch (Ronnie), of Waynesboro, VA, and Georgette Morris Bennett (Bill), of Palmyra, VA; and his brother, Neil Kennedy Morris (Elizabeth), of Caldwell, TX. “Robbie” is also survived by sisters-in law, Gwendolyn Gunter Parr and Kelley Webster Gunter; brothers-in-law, Michael Anderson Gunter, Gregory Edward Parr, and Kurt Grant. “Robbie” is also survived by many loving nieces, and nephews that he loved dearly, and a loving “brother” John White. He is also survived by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Judith Duff Gunter, and Percy Edward Gunter, of Madison Heights, VA. Robbie was a graduate of Stuarts Draft High School and upon graduation he immediately began to serve his country in the US Army, 82nd Airborne Division, 1981-1989. He served his remaining years in the Army in the prestigious Presidential Honor Guard. After his honorable discharge from the US Army, he joined the Albemarle County Police Dept. He was a Corporal for the police dept., also serving as a sniper for the SWAT Team. He was loved and respected by all. He had to retire unexpectedly from the Albemarle Police Dept., in 2001, after a cruiser accident, however his heart remained with his fellow officers at the Police Dept. Robbie was a long-time member of Central Baptist Church, Lowesville, VA, where he served as a Sunday School Teacher and Deacon. He loved being a part of his children’s lives, and was also very proud of all of them. He has gone home to be with his loving Savior – remaining a protective guardian angel over his wife and children. Robbie was a loving wonderful husband and a devoted father, awesome brother, brother-in-law, son-in-law, and uncle. He will be missed by all. The family will receive friends from 6:30-9:00 p.m. tonight, Friday, February 17, 2012, at Whitten Monelison Chapel, and at other times at the residence. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2012, at Central Baptist Church, by the Rev. Gary Anderson. Interment will follow in Amherst Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Central Baptist Church, 103 Central Church Lane, Lowesville, VA 22967.
