She was born in Prince Edward County on July 26, 1941, daughter of the late Walker and Nettie Hurt.
Rebecca was a member of Elon Baptist Church and had retired after 39 years from First Colony Life Insurance Company. She was a member and former officer of Fairview Rebekah Lodge #52 having also received the Decoration of Chivalry. Additional memberships included Amherst Chapter #115 OES and the Amherst Monroe Ruritan Club.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Alfred “Crick” B. Coleman and a brother, Daniel Joseph Hurt, II.
Left to cherish her memory are two step children, Susan Jatzlau and Belva C. Short (Darryl); two sisters, Roberta H. Tucker and VeLinda H. Reynolds (Dennis); a brother, A. William Hurt; and five grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at Whitten Monelison Chapel, followed by a Celebration of Life starting at 1:00 p.m. with Chaplin Ron Tomlin officiating. Burial will follow at Amherst Cemetery.
