Born in Lynchburg, April 4, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Ernest E. Blankenship and Janice Brooks Blankenship. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda Stratton.
Nellie was retired from Craddock-Terry Shoe Corp. and was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church. She loved her family and was especially devoted to her grandchildren and enjoyed cheering them on at their sports activities.
She is survived by seven children, Billy Blankenship and his wife Debbie, Regina Afflerbach and her husband Bob, James Wright, Jr. and his wife Vickie, Martha Horsley and her husband Donald, Rita Wright, Mike Wright and his wife Roberta and David Wright and his wife Leslie; one son-in-law, Larry Stratton; 16 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the staff of Fairmont Crossing for the wonderful care they provided to Nellie and her family.
A service celebrating her life and faith will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor Gary Moore and Pastor Daryl Donald officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.
The family will host a reception at the Madison Heights Community center following the graveside.
