Lewis Matt M. Coffey

Lewis Matthew Coffey, 82, of Madison Heights went to be with the Lord Wednesday, September 11, 2013 following an extended illness.
Born in Rockbridge County, August 31, 1931, he was a son of the late Edward F. Coffey and Beulah Wiseman Coffey. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Larry D. Coffey and three brothers, Junior, Charles and Bruce Coffey.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce J. Coffey of Madison Heights, one daughter, Selena Rushton and husband Todd of Spartanburg, SC; three brothers, Jerry Coffey and wife Pat and Maynard Coffey all of Roanoke and Fred Coffey and wife Judy of Buena Vista; two sisters, Shirley Mitchell of Vinton and Bernice Grow of Buena Vista and his brother-in-law, Douglas Jefferson of Newport News and a number of nieces and nephews.
Lewis was retired from Bob Evans where he served in product sales. He was a US Navy veteran and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict and he was a member of Grace Baptist Church. Lewis loved the Lord and loved people and he loved serving both.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Steve Tyree officiating. Interment will follow in Briarwood Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the wonderful care and attention provided by the staff of Centra Hospice.
