IN THE CARE OF
Whitten Monelison Chapel
Joann Wright Briggs, 70, of Madison Heights passed away surrounded by her loved ones Saturday, May 6, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Harold and Edna Wright.
Joann was born in Lynchburg on April 23, 1953. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who cherished her family deeply. She had a passion for collecting seashells during her visits to Myrtle Beach and took pride in out-fishing her husband. The Hollywood Casino in Charlestown was one of Joann’s favorite past-times. Joann’s zest for life was evident in the love she showed those around her. She had a strong love of flowers and helping her daughter deliver meals-on-wheels to those in need. An open secret was her unabashed adoration for Hallmark Christmas movies, which she would happily watch any time of year.
Those left to cherish Joann’s memory include her loving husband Ronald Briggs; her children Wayne Briggs and his wife Kim, and Karen Briggs; her grandchildren Claire Briggs and Carter Briggs; her sisters Jane Overstreet and her husband Mike, Beth Godsey and her husband Steve, Rosie Gantt and her husband Randy, Kathy Shotwell and her husband Randy; and her numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, and her nieces and nephews.
A graveside service for Joann will be held Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at 11:00 am at Amherst Cemetery with the Rev. Sheri Winesett officiating.
