Fleecy Rebecca Clay Dowdy, 84, of Madison Heights passed away Thursday, January 3, 2019. She was the wife of the late Joseph Preston Dowdy, Jr. Born July 8, 1934, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of the late Raleigh Thornton Clay and the late Bessie Brown Clay.
Fleecy was a homemaker and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
In addition to her husband and parents, Fleecy was preceded in death by one son, Patrick Dowdy; and five siblings, Elsie DeJarnette, Lorene Shelton, Jane Shelton, DeRoy Clay and Lawson Clay.
Fleecy is survived by one son, Michael Dowdy of Pageland, SC; two siblings, Thelbert Clay (Bettie) of Lynchburg and Adell Conner of Alton; two grandchildren, Joshua Dowdy and Brandy Sutherland (Brian); two great grandchildren, Bryson Sutherland and Braden Sutherland; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A graveside service will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 7, 2019, at Briarwood Memorial Gardens with Elder Carl Thurman officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 7, 2019, at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
