Eva Gray Rigney Wright

June 20, 1917 - January 9, 2011

On Sunday night, January 9, 2011, Eva G. Wright of Madison Heights, transitioned peacefully into eternal life at the residence of her daughter, Christine Floyd.

God gently whispered to our loved one, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt, and friend, to come home and take her eternal rest with her Lord and Savior in Heaven. Praise the Lord for eternal salvation.

At an early age, Eva professed her love for Christ and joined the Monroe Church of God. She was a charter member for seventy-seven years (since April, 1934), where she served faithfully until her health failed just a few years ago.

Eva had a strong passion for serving her Lord and Savior, her church, family, and friends. She always found good in everyone. She had a special love for people, especially her church family for many years.

She loved praying and reading her bible daily. She also had a special talent for playing the piano, not by reading music, but playing by ear.

She also had a strong passion for her family, her children, and her grandchildren. She would place her hands on family pictures and call each of our names and pray one by one every night. At each visit or phone call, she would always share with us "I'm praying for you." Thank God for many years of prayers.

Eva was born to the late Mattie and Joseph Rigney in Chatham, Virginia. She was the last survivor of ten children.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted son, Lawrence (Buddy) Wright of Monroe and her devoted daughter and caregiver, Christine Floyd of Madison Heights and two devoted and loving sons-in-law, Leroy Floyd and James (Jim) Webster, also of Madison Heights. She leaves behind six loving grandchildren, Jay Floyd, Tommy Wright, Mike McLaughlin, Sheryl Bryant, Karen Banton, and Dawn Floyd. She also had twelve great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and an extended circle of nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Wright (a widow since 1954); three daughters, Delois (Lois) Floyd, Margaret Webster, and Barbara (Boo) Cash, and one grandson, Tony Floyd.

Eva retired from the Central Virginia Training Center after seventeen years of service. She was a woman of diligent work (Proverbs 14:23).

She was a lover of nature and loved all of God's outdoor creations. She loved raising a garden and her flowers, taking care of them and watching them grow, and also mowing her lawn. Her favorite season was spring, when all of God's creation came back to life, a new year and a new beginning. She enjoyed ninety years of God's blessings by living independent in her own home. Her legacy and testimony will forever bless and enrich our lives!

Our family would like to thank Dr. Bendall and Guggenheimer's Rehab Center staff for their compassionate care during her two weeks of rehab. Thanks also to the staff of Centra Hospice, especially Nurse Vicky Bailey, for all their support for the past few weeks.

Timothy 5:34: Give proper recognition to those widows who are in need. But if a widow has children or grandchildren, those shall learn first of all to put their religion into practice by caring for their own family and doing so in repaying their parents and grandparents, for this is pleasing to God.

We thank God for allowing our family to be blessed for so many years with such a Godly mother and grandmother.

A celebration of Eva's life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Alley presiding. Burial will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park

The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
