Elsie Mae Mitchell

Elsie Mae Mitchell, 93, of Madison Heights passed away Friday, May 13, 2016, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late George Washington Mitchell. Born January 7, 1923, in Tazewell, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Thomas Bandy and the late Mollie Rebecca Harmon Bandy. Elsie was a retired press operator for the Central Virginia Training Center. In addition to her husband and parents, Elsie was preceded in death by one son, Larry Ray Mitchell and five siblings, Helen Staley, Lois Perry, Tom Bandy, Carl Bandy and Frank Bandy. Elsie is survived by five children, Kenneth Lee Mitchell and his wife Kathy, Shirley Anderson and her husband Dennis, Wanda Carson and her husband Milton, Jr., Curtis Allen Mitchell and Randal Wayne Mitchell and his wife Donna, all of Madison Heights; two siblings, Fred Harold Bandy his wife Elizabeth of Marion and Ella Flanner and her husband Robert of Cedar Bluff; eight grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted, 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Jacob Uthup officiating. Interment will follow at Briarwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m., Monday, May 16, 2016, at Whitten Monelison Chapel and at other times at the residence.
