Obituary of Edward Holt Trent
Edward Holt Trent, 81, of Madison Heights passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his family. Born in Campbell County, December 11, 1941, he was the son of the late Sidney Edward Trent and Lillie Carr Trent. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Carroll Trent and grandson, Cody Campbell. Ed exemplified a life dedicated to serving others. His commitment to service was evident in his time with the U.S. Navy and the Lynchburg Police Department, where he faithfully served until retirement. Even after retiring, Ed’s devotion to the community continued as he joined the CVCC Campus Police. Ed found great solace and purpose in his faith, being an active member of Oakdale Baptist Church and holding a deep love for his savior. Additionally, he was a valued charter member of the FOP, John Lynch Lodge #34 and was a member of the American Legion Post 16. His service extended beyond the navy, as he remained a lifetime member of the USS Shangri-La association, a tribute to the ship he had proudly served on. However, above all these accomplishments, Edward cherished his roles as a loving husband, a devoted father, and a doting grandfather. His family held a special place in his heart, and he dedicated himself to their well-being and happiness throughout his life. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 56 years, Mary Ann Trent, two daughters, Melissa Campbell (Jay) and Michelle Wooldridge both of Goode; one son, Eddie Trent (Karen) of Ponder, TX; one sister, Joan Worsham of Hurt; one brother, Darren Trent of South Boston; nine grandchildren, Victoria Campbell, Nicholas Campbell, Brandon Wooldridge, Tiffany Wooldridge (Cody Coleman), Lillie-Ann Trent, Emma Trent, Austin Low, Cassie Smith-Low and Jamie Low; and three great grandchildren, Rylee Coleman, Grace Low, Michael Low. The family would like to gratefully acknowledge Centra Hospice and his caregivers, Eddie Lannen and special niece, Jeannie Lawhorne for the wonderful care they provided to Ed and his family. A service celebrating his life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 21, 2023 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor Terry Wornstaff officiating. Interment will follow in Amherst Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at Whitten Monelison Chapel. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Lynchburg Police Foundation or Oakdale Baptist Church.
