Obituary of Doris Patterson Bryant
Doris Elizabeth “Gran” Patterson Bryant, 78, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 surrounded by loved ones. She was the wife of the late Earl John Bryant. Born on November 3, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Margaret Patterson. Doris was a longtime member of Madison Heights Baptist Church. She had many friends. Anyone who knew her, loved her. She was graceful, generous, and genuine, with a style all her own. Her family was her life. She was a loving, caring, and supportive daughter, wife, and mother. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her greatest joy. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Herman “Pat” Patterson, Jr. She is survived by her adoring and loving children, Sandee Mattox and husband Gary of Waynesboro and Clayborn Bryant and wife Kristi of Virginia Beach; four grandchildren, John White, Elizabeth Duff and husband Patrick, Cameron Ching, and Kelly Bryant; three step-grandchildren, Lee, Wendy, and Michael Mattox; seven great grandchildren, Aidan White, Dustin Johnson, Kayla Duff, Jaxon Duff, Jorden Duff, Jayden Duff, and Jewel Elizabeth Duff; her sisters, Hazel Mays and husband Willie, Geraldine Hensley and husband Marvin, Shirley Sandidge and husband William, and a dearly loved cousin who was like a sister, Patsy Leftwich and husband Marshall; special longtime friends, Lucy Irvine and husband Joe, Millie Dawson, Jean Bryant, Marilyn DeWitt, and “Sistas”; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at Lynchburg General Hospital for their care of Doris over the past month and to Dr. David Haga for his continuous care over the past 30 years. A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Monday, May 12, 2014 at Madison Heights Baptist Church with Pastor Todd Blake officiating. Interment will follow at Meade Cemetery.
