Chesley Franklin “Frank” McPhatter, Jr., 71, of Madison Heights, VA, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the devoted husband of Nancy Garnett McPhatter for fifty years.
Born December 31, 1941 in Fredericksburg, VA, he was the son of the late Chesley Franklin McPhatter, Sr. and the late Ruby Eastridge McPhatter. Mr. McPhatter was an Engineer with Areva for thirty-five years and was a proud United States Marine Corps veteran. He was also a member and past Master of Marshall Lodge #39, A.F. & A.M. and American Legion Post 274. Mr. McPhatter was a faithful member and Deacon at Madison Heights Baptist Church.
Frank was an avid runner, completing the first 30 Virginia Ten Milers and numerous marathons. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, Mr. McPhatter is survived by two daughters, Lesley L. McPhatter and husband Robert A. Branham and Kristin M. Ogden and husband William, both of Madison Heights; two sons, Chesley “Chet” McPhatter, III and wife Kate of Monroe, and Michael P. McPhatter and wife Kiston of Madison Heights; two sisters, Barbara M. Kendall and husband Charles and Annette M. Johnson, all of Fredericksburg; twelve grandchildren, Amanda O. Kellogg (David), Ashton O. Sale (Jacob), Kendall, Caroline, and Kallena Branham, Emma, Claire, and Chesley “Chase”, IV, McPhatter and Eleanor, Preston, Lucas, and Arden McPhatter; a sister-in-law, Beverly Ann Garnett and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Madison Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Todd Blake officiating. Interment with Masonic Rites by Marshall Lodge 39 and military honors by the U.S. Marine Corps will follow at Briarwood Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the church, Thursday, June 6, 2013 for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 p.m. (noon) and other times at the residence.
