Cecil Roy Brooks Sr.

Cecil R. Brooks, Sr., 92, passed away on Thursday, January 28, at his home in Madison Heights, VA.
He was born on November 12, 1928 to Lottie and Dingee Brooks. He was an employee of Mead Corporation for over 40 years, a long-time member of Monroe United Methodist Church, and a veteran who served in the Virginia State Guard during World War II.
Cecil was hardworking, creative, and loved by everyone who met him. He loved wood-working, gardening, and fishing. In 1969, with no formal training in architecture or construction, he designed and built the home where his family lived for 52 years.
Cecil was preceded in death by his son Freddie Brooks.
He survived by his wife of 72 years, Barbara, his sons Cecil Brooks, Jr. (wife Deb), Donnie Brooks (wife Martha), his daughter Wanda McGee (husband David), his daughter-in-law LaNelle Brooks, his grandsons Donnie Brooks, Jr. and Justin Brooks (wife Becca), two granddaughters, his niece Becky Lipscomb, nephew Bub Brooks, and many other nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express profound gratitude to Centra Hospice and the many health care professionals who cared for Cecil in his final days.
He will be laid to rest in Briarwood Cemetery in Amherst, VA after a private graveside service.
