Cathy Akers Edwards, 55, of Monroe, died, Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the loving and devoted wife for 30 years to Robert Lee “Robbie” Edwards, Jr. Born November 26, 1956, in Danville, she was the daughter of Betty Reynolds Akers and the late Jack Odell Akers.
Cathy was a former equipment operator for the Virginia Department of Transportation and a member of Solid Rock Baptist Church. Cathy left her job with V.D.O.T. to be the loving caretaker for her mother.
In addition to her husband and mother, Cathy is survived by her brother, Billy Akers and his wife Donna of Bedford; her sister-in-law and special friend, Nancy E. Winston of Madison Heights; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial service will be conducted, 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 14, 2012, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. David Cash and the Rev. Bill Evans officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
