Obituary of Catherine Dianne Epperly
In loving, cherished Memory of Catherine Diane Epperly. Born Catherine Diane Gillespie, eldest of 6 beloved siblings; Jeff, Tony, Steven, John David and Wayne, she was the matriarch of the family. A steadfast role model, provider, caretaker and defender of those she loved. Soft spoken, but strong willed, independent and selfless. A hardworking, Christian woman who throughout her life volunteered her time within her community by organizing benefits for local families, and giving her time to local charities such as Interfaith Outreach, The Lynchburg Daily Bread, and supported local youth as a member of the Boonsboro Ruritan Club. She was well- traveled with broad horizons being born into a military family. From Camp Lejeune, to the sands of Arizona, even as far to the foothills of Mount Vesuvius, her path eventually brought her to meet her husband Larry Epperly. Becoming a step-mother to her beautiful new daughter Stephanie whom she loved immediately as her own, and in time a grandmother of 3 amazing grandchildren - Brian, Skyler, and Gavin whom she loved more than life itself. During June of 1983, she gave birth to a son they named William Joseph and she dedicated her life to loving, teaching, raising and providing for all 5 children and grandchildren and most recently 2 great grandchildren, Brody and Soren. Catherine's passion in life was Botany. Her love for plants and herbs and all things green was only rivaled by her love for her family. As a landscape designer, she was known as the Lavender Lady. Lavender being her favorite of all the plants and trees she tended throughout her lifetime. She never backed down from any challenge or adversity that life brought to her doorstep. To describe her in one word, it would no doubt be Selfless. She gave, and sacrificed without hesitation, humbly with no promise or expectation of reward or praise. Her unconditional love knew no bounds. Her faith in God rock solid. She was brave and fearless with her battle against cancer, and just as she lived, Catherine was brave and fearless to the end being welcomed home into the loving arms of her creator when she passed. We will forever cherish a lifetime of wonderful memories we were blessed to share with her. You will be loved and missed dearly until we meet again. A service celebrating her life and faith will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Thomas Road Baptist Church Pate Chapel officiated by Pastor Charles Billingsley. Interment will immediately follow the service at Fort Hill Memorial Park. Casual attire is highly encouraged, as Catherine would want you to be comfortable, relaxed and “come as you are”. Those wishing to make memorial contributions in her name are asked to consider The Lynchburg Daily Bread, 721 Clay Street, Lynchburg VA 24502.
