Shirley was the daughter of the late Vincent and Agnes Romano.
She was born in Waterbury, CT, on March 7, 1929.
She is survived by her friend, Audrey Tiani, her sister, Mary Gryniuk of Cheshire, brother Thomas Romano of East Haven, sister Cathy Kasidas of Watertown, and brother Gregory Romano of Harwinton, 12 nieces and nephews and several grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased recently by her brother James Romano.
Shirley graduated from Catholic High School in Waterbury, Connecticut, she also graduated from Southern Connecticut State University; with an Associate Professor Emeritus of Education; a B.S. Southern Connecticut State University: a M.A. Professional Diploma, from Teachers College Columbia University.
Shirley's whole professional career was focused on education from teaching gifted students in the New Haven school system to her many decades at Southern Connecticut State University spent developing and mentoring new teachers as a Student Teacher Supervisor and retiring from the position as Administrative Assistant to the Dean of the Graduate School at Southern Connecticut State University in 1987.
She was most proud of their country home in Madison and her beloved German Shepard "Thor". Both Shirley and Audrey enjoyed traveling the country in their RV and in retirement wintering in Florida.
Shirley was a quiet unassuming person, generous to a fault always helping those in need. She will be missed by all she touched in her long life.
A special thank you to her friend and caregiver Doreen Santanello who took such wonderful care of Shirley in her later years.
