On August 8, 2020, Richard W. Jordan Sr., passed away peacefully. He was the loving husband of Mary D. Jordan of Madison, CT. for 58 years. Father of Laurie Ann Jordan (Jon Van Cleft) of Stratford, CT. and Richard W. Jordan Jr. (Joanne Jordan) of Guilford, CT.
Rich was born April 8, 1937 in Groton, CT., son of the late William and Mary Jordan. He was a veteran of the U.S.A.F., having served 4 years active duty as a geodetic surveyor, then served 2 years in the reserves. He was a graduate of the Milwaukee School or Engineering Class of 1962. He started his 40-year Metals Industry career as a research engineer for the Metals Research Labs of Olin Corporation in New Haven, then served as technical advisor for the Olin Corporation Brass Division. He then became the Market Planning and Development Manager of Somers Thin Strip, a division of Olin Corporation during his 15-year tenure there. He was a founding partner & Vice President for The Metal Center, Inc. from 1977-1982. In 1982, he became the east coast manager for Plessey Precision Metals, Inc. of Los Angeles, California.
For 14 years, he developed the East Coast market for light gauge stainless steel and hi-temp strip. As a member of the AIME and ASM, he wrote and published papers on Kirdendall Diffusion and marketing of thin gauge copper and stainless-steel strip. He became President of Metallurgical Market Consultants in 1996 and retired from the metals industry in 2002. Rich was a member of the American Legion Post 135 of Naples, Fl. He served on the board of Shear Creations Inc. for 25 years.
Rich enjoyed deep sea fishing and was president of “Mr. J Inc.”, a charter boat fishing entity. He was U.S. Merchant Marine Officer for 30 years.
In lieu of floral arrangements, donations may be made to the NRA, Madison Ambulance, or The Salvation Army. Private funeral is at family’s convenience. The Swan Funeral Home oversees all arrangements.
