Patricia M. Anderson, 92, widow of Ernest Anderson of Amherst, Massachusetts, and later Madison, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on 9 May. Pat was the daughter of Warren and Ruth from Wallingford, CT, and is survived by her sister, two grown children, and her granddaughter.
Pat was valedictorian in high school in Wallingford, CT, and attended Connecticut College, ultimately receiving her Ph.D. in Economics from UMass, Amherst.
Pat lived her last years where she wanted - by the sea. She drew inspiration from the constantly changing seascape and how light reflected off the water. She loved photography, art, and making her own clothing.
Pat belonged to several organizations, including the Madison Art Society, the Camera Club, and the First Congregational Church of Madison, where she sang in the choir.
Born in 1931, Pat earned a Ph.D. at a time when men did not always support higher education for women. She met her husband at Harvard where she did a lot of cutting-edge quantitative research for Nobel Prize winner in Economics, Professor Wassily Leontiev. Before she retired, Pat had taught at U Mass Amherst, Clark University, Yale, and finally the Business School at Quinnipiac University.
Over the years Pat enjoyed a robust travel life which took her far and wide, including many European capitals, China, Japan, and Australia. In lieu of flowers memorial donation may be made to EC Scranton Memorial Library 801 Boston Post Rd Madison, CT 06443 or Connecticut Public Television-ctpublic.org or NPR- npr.org
