Mary was born on November 14, 1932, in New Haven, Connecticut to Andrew and Helen (Moriarity) Daly.
Mary is survived by Raymond, her beloved husband of 64 years, their six children and 16 grandchildren: son Christopher and his wife Krissa Van Hoorebeke of Holmdel, New Jersey and their children Kevin, Kaitlin and Kieran; daughter Rosemary and her husband Alberto Acevedo of Shelton, Connecticut and their children Katherine, Lucas and Max; son Andrew of Arlington, Massachusetts and his children Jake (Bekah), Lance (Kathryn), Veronica and Grace; daughter Katherine Holmes of East Machias, Maine and her children Alex and Mary Clare; son John of Nassau Bay, Texas and his children Patrick (Annie), Kyle, Emily and Jack; and son Raymond of Guilford, Connecticut.
She is predeceased by her sister Helen Daly Flynn, her granddaughter Megan, and son-in-law Malcolm Holmes.
She enjoyed and loved greatly her many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and friends.
Mary went to school at St Francis in Fairhaven, St Mary’s High School and Albertus Magnus College in New Haven. She and her husband moved to Long Island in 1958 and raised their young family in Huntington, New York where Mary was active in St Patrick’s Parish and School. Mary and Raymond moved their family to Madison, Connecticut in 1979, which they called home for 38 years.
Mary was a gracious host bringing family and friends together for celebrations of milestones and holidays. She enhanced every event with her great wit and warmth.
Mary loved to sing and to write, loved jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She never missed the PBS Newshour and had the most beautiful cursive handwriting, a gift from the nuns at St Francis.
Visiting hours will be held at Swan Funeral Home from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, September 23 and a funeral mass on Friday, September 24 at 11:00 AM at St Margaret’s church in Madison.
