Born in Hartford, Connecticut he was the son of the late Edward and Barbara Gross. He was a long-time resident of Madison and had moved to Wallingford a couple of years ago.
Ed grew up in West Hartford, Connecticut and graduated from the Kingswood School. From there he went on to RPI and later Trinity College where he earned his bachelor’s degree. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, the main focus in his life was his family in which he took tremendous pride. His professional career in Data Processing and Information Technology was one primarily spent working for the State of Connecticut. A big part of his private life was spent serving his community. Among a number of other things Ed served as a Mason for more than 50 years; also as a volunteer fireman, a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America, and a longtime member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was also a passionate Green Bay Packer fan and loved all things nautical, especially spending time on the water.
He leaves his sons, Stephen Gross of Branford and Edward (Skip) Gross III and his wife, Martha, of Madison; daughter Robin Ragusa and friend Christopher Healey, of Fairfield; daughter-in-law Patricia Gross of Falls Church VA; grandchildren Michael and Mark Ragusa and Oliver and Nicholas Gross; sister-in-law Jean Lanz of Stratford, and niece and nephews, Cynthia Shoopman, Kerwin and Alan Lanz.
