Ray Waters, my knight in shining armor, my best friend, and the love of my life for 53 years was the humblest servant I know. His greatest joys were his family, singing praise music, and serving others. On Thursday, February 1, 2024, Ray joined the heavenly choir where he is continuing to worship his Savior and Lord—as he has since the day Christ saved him.
Ray was born in Millen, GA to A.F. and Carolyn Waters, but he and his brothers, Addison, Carol, Don, and Frank grew up in Sylvania, GA. He graduated from Screven County High School in 1970. Ray was attending Georgia Southern College when the Lord brought him into my life. It was love at first sight. We married on August 19, 1972.
Ray loved nothing more than to serve and care for me and our family. He will be deeply missed by our children, Matt and Gina Waters and Brad and Tyler Marie Waters Luquire, and grandchildren, Anna Kate, Carson, Nya, Sadie, and Penny, who knew him as Poppy. He was a member of Ingleside Baptist Church and the Journey Class. A gifted electrician, Ray worked for many years in sales at Lowe Electric. After he retired, he continued to use his talents by completing wiring projects for others. He was dedicated to doing the job right, and he did.
I will miss Ray every day until the day we’re reunited in the presence of our Lord. Until that day, we will all take great comfort in sharing the multitude of wonderful memories we made with Ray, his numerous bad “dad jokes,” and cheering together for his favorite football team—Go Dawgs!
Our lives remain rich because of having known and loved Ray Waters—the best friend, husband, father, and Poppy. The Lord he served sustains us and walks with us every moment. He would encourage us to remember that no matter what we’re facing, the Lord is faithful.
I’m so incredibly grateful for his life and his love.
A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Ingleside Baptist Church with Dr. Mark Hudgins and the Rev. Joe McDaniel officiating. Burial will be private at Riverside Cemetery. The family will greet friends following the service at the church. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to Ingleside Baptist Church Missions, 834 Wimbish Road, Macon GA 31204.
