MACON – Arlyn Virginia Shelley, 96, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, January 17, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Avenue with burial in Riverside Cemetery, North Gate. The Rev. Tommy Perkins will officiate. The family will meet friends from 10 a.m., to service time on Friday at the funeral home. They suggest that those who wish make memorial contributions to Vista Care Hospice, 319 Margie Drive, Warner Robins 31088.
Mrs. Shelley, daughter of the late William Saxon Goldwire and Epsie Elizabeth “Bessie” Barfield Goldwire, was born in Roberta, GA on April 20, 1915. She graduated from Miller High School, attended Mercer University and Young Harris College. She was preceded in death by her sister Marie “Elise” Hughes, a brother, William Saxon Goldwire II, husbands, Samuel Joseph Muffoletto and Rhuel Egbert Shelley. Virginia was a secretary for many years and retired from Robins Air Force Base. She was a member of Mulberry Street United Methodist Church of Macon and and was a distinguished member of the Endowed Century Club of the Young Harris College Alumni Foundation.
Survivors include her nieces, Joann (Leroy) Denton of Woodleaf, NC and Linda (Robert) Moncrief of Monroe County; her nephews, Larry Goldwire and William “Saxon” (Pam) Goldwire, all of Forsyth.
The family extends their deep gratitude for the compassionate, professional and gentle care given to Virginia during the past months, Pat Wilson, Sheila Hart, Patsy Sparks, Lachyell Taylor, Sally Sirmon, Betty Wise, Tom Brown, Tracey Hunt, Semetrius Edmond, Crystal Bivins and Janet Smith.
