Veronica Smith was born on June 4th, 1938, in Watchwell, Jamaica to the late Linda and Alfred Parchment. She graduated from Newcombe Valley School in Saint Elizabeth, and Smith Commercial Institute in Kingston where she earned her secretarial certification.
After graduation, Veronica returned to Watchwell where she embarked on a career as a secretary in a travel agency. She later transitioned to work at a newly opened Community bank where she was promoted to Assistant Manager. Her expertise and interests in banking led to several years of her working in the industry serving the community where she grew up.
In 1959, she married the love of her life, the late Amos Smith, and relocated to Santa Cruz, Jamaica, where they had two sons, Denroy and Kerwin. Veronica continued to work for the Community bank supporting the thriving Santa Cruz community. She worshipped at Saint Matthew’s Anglican Church where she volunteered her services for 13 years.
After the untimely passing of her husband, Veronica made the difficult decision to leave her children in the care of family while she immigrated to the United States where she had close family members and friends already residing. Once established in the U.S., she continued to work in the banking industry, landing her first job at Republic National Bank in Brooklyn, New York. After a short while, her now teenage boys joined her in the U.S.
In 1989, now an empty nester, Veronica relocated to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and changed career paths retraining as a Certified Nursing Assistant where she aided patients who needed personalized and expert care.
Veronica retired from the Banking and Health Care industry in 2003. She loved to entertain family and friends, garden, cook, dance, and travel.
Veronica departed this life on March 24, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband, Amos Smith, parents, Alfred and Linda Parchment, sisters, Lucille Bennett, Keturah Parchment, Gladys Parchment, Edna McIntire, brothers, Raphael Parchment, Caldosa Parchment, and Alvan Parchment.
