Roy Lee Nixon, Jr., 63, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at a local hospital. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday at Oak Hill Cemetery, Griffin, GA with Pastor Bryan McPherson officiating. The family will meet friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Wednesday at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Thursday at Conner – Westbury Funeral Home, Griffin. At Mr. Nixon’s request, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to The Wounded Warrior Project c/o Bill O’Reilly P. O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
Mr. Nixon, son of the late Roy Lee Nixon, Sr. was born in Forsyth, GA and was a member of Chamlee Memorial Baptist Church. He served with the U. S. Army 82nd Airborne Division from 1972 to his retirement in 1983 with the rank of SSGT, earning the National Defense Service Medal, Parachute Badge, Good Conduct Medal 3rd Award. Mr. Nixon worked as a Postal Window Clerk with the U. S. Postal Service for twenty-seven years before his retirement.
A devoted son, husband, father, grandfather and brother, he is survived by those he loved most, his wife, Stephanie W. Nixon; his children, Carrie Nixon Stephens (Stanley), Natalie Nixon Gilbert (David), Lori Nixon Gales (Chris), Christopher Brad Nixon (Jessica) and Allyson Nixon Hendrix (Todd); his mother, Eleanor Martin Nixon; sixteen grandchildren; sister, Sharon Nixon Smith (Mike); brother, Steve Nixon and several nieces and nephews.
