Horace Reginald Wilson, Jr. went to be with the Lord, November 27, 2023. A celebration of his life will be held at 2 pm, Saturday at Liberty Church Macon with Rev. Jack Osburn officiateing. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at 1 pm in the church sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made Liberty Church Macon, choir fund or the Liberty Methodist Cemetery fund.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Vinson Wilson; his parents, Horace Reginald Wilson, Sr. and Myrtle Sink Wilson. He is survived by his sister, Mary Wilson Lewis; his two daughters, Jane Wilson Stoner (Blake) and Anne Wilson McGee; two granddaughters, Julia Stoner and Emily McGee.
He was born on May 22, 1930 in High Point, NC to the late Horace Reginald Wilson, Sr. and the late Myrtle Sink Wilson. When he was 5, his family moved to South Georgia where he eventually moved to Brunswick and graduated from Glynn Academy in 1948. He joined the Navy in 1950 and traveled the European/Atlantic theater. After his enlistment ended, he attended University of North Georgia in Dahlongea, GA and met the love of his life, Beverly Calhoun Vinson. They were married June 20, 1958 after they graduated college. He was commissioned in the US Army upon graduation as a 2nd Lieutenant. He served at Fort Jackson, SC and Fort Sill, OK, then went to work at Robins AFB Base, GA as a civil servant. He worked as a material manager and supervisor for 27 years and retired in 1986.
He was a charter member of the Rutland Lion’s Club and faithfully served as a member until his death. He was always an active participant for any fundraisers, ranging from broom sales to the Pancake Breakfast. He was also a faithful and loyal member of Liberty United Methodist Church and then Liberty Church Macon for more than 65 years where he sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. He also was active in the Boy Scouts during his younger years as an assistant scout master for the troop that met at Liberty during the 1970’s. He always had a great love for St. Simons Island where he called home during his high school years and the Great Smoky Mountains when the family would take annual trips to the mountains. His other great love was being “’Grandpa” to his granddaughters.
