Ola Horton Wood, of Macon, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, just seventeen days prior to what would have been her 96th birthday. She died peacefully at home with her son, Tommy and daughter, Katherine by her bedside, She is part of America’s Greatest Generation having lived through the Great Depression and World War II.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with Rev. Joe McDaniel officiating. Entombment will be in Veterans Mausoleum of Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10:00 AM until service time on Saturday at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Ola was the daughter of the late Willie Dawson Horton and the late Nora Viola Scoggins Horton. She was born in Wrightsville, Johnson County, Georgia in 1926, and was educated in Johnson County and Treutlen County School Systems.
On October 17, 1944 she married Millard Clark Wood and they moved to Macon with their son, Tommy Clark Wood and daughter, Katherine. Her husband Millard passed away on July 7, 2009 after 64 years of marriage.
In addition to her husband and parents, Ola was predeceased by her sister, Laura Bellflower; brother, Cecil “Buddy” Horton; daughter-in-law, Hilda Wood; grandson, Michael David Wood; nephews, Johnny Underwood and Eddie Maddox.
She is survived by her son, Tommy Clark Wood, Sr. (Dell) of Perry; daughter, Katherine Wood Blizzard (Al) of Macon; five grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Ola was employed as a civilian worker at Robins Air Force Base where she worked for twenty- nine years, retiring on December 7, 1991, Pearl Harbor Day.
She and her family attended Mabel White Memorial Baptist Church where she and Millard where members of the Faith Bible Class for more than fifty years until health issues prevented active participation. The precious ministry of the Faith Bible Class is still felt today. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Faith Bible Class at Mabel White Baptist Church, 1415 Bass Road, Macon GA 31210.
