A celebration of her life will be held Monday, January 7, 2019 at 11:00am in the Chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with Rev. Andy Oxford and Rev. Joe McDaniel officiating. Burial will be private in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mount Zion Baptist Church, 7015 Rivoli Road, Macon, 31210, or to the charity of choice.
Mildred was born in Taylor County, Georgia, to the late Willie Earl and Margaret Neisler, the first of five children. Even though she grew up during the Depression she was always thankful for the life lessons she learned during those years on the family farm. Those lessons served her well as President of Bibb Collection Service from 1957 until her retirement at the age of 85 in 2007. She, along with business partner Albert Sapp and many outstanding employees, built a very successful company serving Macon and Middle Georgia. Bibb Collection was as much her hobby as it was her work. She always looked forward to getting up and “going into work”.
Mildred was very much a student of the Bible and taught Sunday School at Mabel White Baptist Church and Tattnall Square Baptist Church for a number of years. While at Mabel White she and husband Harris enjoyed numerous group trips with Pastor Jimmy Waters. After Harris’ death, she moved her membership to Mt. Zion Baptist Church to be with her sister.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Earl and Margaret Neisler; husband, Harris Smith; brothers, Wilbur and Carl Neisler; and sister, Ann Strayhorn. She is survived by son, Earl Smith (Sue), Macon; granddaughter, Susan Holton, Gray; grandson, Richard Smith (Dawnn), College Grove, TN; great grandchildren, Madeleine Smith and Caleb Smith, College Grove, TN, and Miller Holton, Gray; and a sister, Janet Walton (David), Macon.
The Family would like to thank the staff at Bolingreen Heath and Rehab for their care and support.
