Mary Roberts Norris, 93, passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2024. A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Phil Bryant officiating. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. to service time at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 4406, Macon Georgia 31208 or Georgia Deaf Association.
Mary was born in Gray, Georgia to the late Homer W. and Evelyn Goggans Roberts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle A. Norris, and sisters, Pearla Roberts Poland and Helen Roberts Lumpkin. Mary left home at the age of 6 to attend Georgia School of Deaf @ Cave Springs and graduated from Cave Springs in 1949. Mary met her husband Doyle at Cave Springs and was married. Mary was taught to be a Beautician while at school. She returned to Macon and worked at Davison’s Department Store Downtown. Mary also worked at Foote and Davis, printing TV guides, and later went to work for the State of Georgia and Internal Revenue Service in Atlanta, Georgia. She retired in 1994 and became active in the Georgia Deaf Association. Mary was a member of Lawrence Drive Baptist Church and the Deaf Ministry.
She is survived by her sisters, Clarice Roberts Kitchens of Macon, Betty Jane Roberts (John) Pierson of Culloden, Barbara Roberts (Keith) Brady of Macon, sister-in-law, Yvonne Leverett and several nieces and nephews.
