On Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 4:15 am, Mary Louise (Lummus) Ford went to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 93. She would have turned 94 this month. Mrs. Ford was a faithful wife of 73 years to Rev. Joe Ford who preceded her to heaven last year. She was a devoted and praying mother and a faithful servant of God and His church.
Mrs. Ford was born and raised in Linden, TX, where she met her husband, Joe Ralph Ford. Bro. Ford and Mrs. Ford have six children, 13 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren. The names of her six children are as follows (with spouses): Rita Weaver (Toby) from California; Mona Clark (Dennis) from Warner Robins, GA; Suza Rasmussen (Mark) from California; Joey Ford (Jacqueline) from Macon, GA; Lyla Curtis (Bill) from South Carolina; Lisa Smith (Rusty) from Macon, GA. Her grandchildren live in California, Michigan, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Thailand, Oregon, Maryland, and Tennessee.
As a mother, Mrs. Ford poured herself into all aspects of raising her large family with love, discipline, hard work, and sheer determination. She was a prayer warrior for her children and their families, and she always had a word of Scripture, a story, a quote, or a poem to share.
As a pastor's wife for decades, she wore many hats. From painting many flannelgraph scenes for children's ministry, to organizing church events and programs, to teaching women and children, to preparing a meal for someone in need, she served God and others faithfully. She offered her gifts of hospitality for years hosting speakers, missionaries, and church members in their home.
Even into her retirement years she would bless others with a loaf of her famous banana nut bread. When health issues confined her to home, she loved to phone church members to encourage them. She loved her church and her pastor and was eager to praise both. She was a valued member of Mikado Baptist Church.
The life and legacy of Mrs. Ford are marked by her strength of will, her determination of spirit, and her love for her Lord and family. She was an inspiration to many.
Funeral services will be held at Mikado Baptist Church on Tuesday, June 13. The viewing and visitation with the family will begin at 10am with the funeral service at 11am
