Margaret McDaniel Utley, 96, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2014, at Bolingreen Health and Rehabilitation Facility. A Celebration of her Life will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at the graveside in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Bagwell officiating. The family will greet friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church, 1290 College St., Macon GA 31201.
Mrs. Utley was born in Wilkinson, County to the late Leonard Leon McDaniel and Lala McCook McDaniel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn Utley her sister, Fleta Huser and in-laws, W.T. (Deacon) Utley and his wife, Jewell Utley. She graduated from Gordon High School, where she lettered in basketball.
Margaret worked for a time at First National Bank in Macon, GA. She married Lynn Utley in 1941, after World War II she helped Lynn operate the Smile-A-While Piano Studio in downtown Macon. Her most important job was raising their three daughters.
Mrs. Utley had many talents and interests. She served as a Brownie Leader and as a Red Cross Volunteer at A.L. Miller High School. She was a wonderful baker; making cakes and catering wedding receptions. She was a pillar of her church, Centenary United Methodist of which she was a lifelong member.
In retirement, Mrs. Utley and her husband Lynn traveled extensively in the United States and Northern Ireland with the Lay Witness Mission Program of the United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Marlyn (Harry) Trawick, Geonene Minshew, and Cathy Hanson, grandchildren, Harry (Kathy) Trawick, Jr., Mark (Jennifer) Trawick, Mindy (Brandon) Hawkins, Amy (Landon) Carter, Michael (Jessica) Minshew, Staci Dixon, Cassie (Jon) Smith, 12 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and sister-in-law, Frances Ann Moore.
The family is very grateful to the staff at Bolingreen Health and Rehabilitation Facility for their kind and gracious care for Margaret during her last years.
