Luther Cecil Parks, 86, died peacefully May 18, 2012 at Peake Point Hospice of Central Georgia. Born 1/20/1926 in Southland (Macon County), Georgia to Keith and Ila Parks, he lived most of his life in Macon, GA. Cecil loved Georgia, his country, and willingly served in the US Navy during WWII.
Cecil, a loving and respected husband, father, “papa” and “great papa”, along with beloved wife Evelyn, taught many valuable life lessons to those who survive him. Surviving Cecil--his son, Larry and daughter-in-law Mary Parks who was like a daughter to him; his daughter Denise Parks; Grandchildren: Keith and Amanda Parks, Bradley Parks, Jonathan Harper and Lauren Harper; Great-grandchildren: Abbey Parks, Tia Chastain, and Liam Cecil Parks; Sister Joyce Pyles; Brother Jimmy Parks; sister Linda Rogers ; Cousin Macelle Cone and long-time friend Russell Findley. Cecil mourned the deaths of his wife of 64 years Evelyn Rustin Parks and parents Luther Keith and Ila Albritton Parks.
Loyally working over 30 years for Georgia Power Company, Cecil retired in 1989. Following retirement, Cecil enjoyed connections with colleagues as a member of the Georgia Power Ambassadors Club. A member of Wesleyan Drive Baptist Church, he enjoyed beautifying the grounds. A jack-of-all-trades, he built cabinets for the day-care center and handled maintenance issues. Cecil loved learning to turn wooden bowls with his son Larry at the John Campbell Folk School in NC. Cecil made wonderful wooden heirlooms for his children, grand and great-grand children including a cradle, rocking glider horse, and seesaw. Cecil appreciated friendships in the Middle Georgia Woodworking Association. He made handicapped ramps and worked yearly on playhouses complete with electricity and running water to help raise funds for Macon Rebuilders. Cecil taught many children to make wooden toys at Lowe’s on Saturday mornings. Cecil always had “just the right item” that a friend might need to complete a project and delighted in sharing. Cecil’s winning smile, twinkling blue eyes, and generous giving spirit will be missed by all who have encountered his presence. He shared with many in the last few months his desire to go to heaven and “see his beautiful wife Evelyn” and relatives and friends who have gone before him. In his final days, he smiled broadly and spoke expectantly of the “coming great reunion” in heaven. We are blessed to have known such a humble, truly special, God-loving, and giving man.
