John Alan Wood, 76, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 following an extended illness. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at First Evangelical Church, with the Rev. Tim Long and the Rev. Richard Jelley officiating. The family will greet friends on Friday, August 25, 2023 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at First Evangelical Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Evangelical Church, 3601 Fulton Mill Road, Macon GA 31206.
Alan was born in Fort Valley, Georgia to the late Merle Jonathan and Mary Willis Wood. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Hawkins Wood, three siblings, Myrene Gillis, Carol Mathis, and Willis Wood. Alan was a member of First Evangelical Church, taught the Believing Crusaders Sunday School Class, served as a Board Member, he also served as the Treasurer at Indian Springs Holiness Campground and Taylor County Campmeeting. He was an assistant principal and math teacher at Miller High School, he was head of school for Windsor Academy from 1989 to 1994 and most recently from 2014 to 2019 as head of school for Covenant Academy. Alan was the owner of Alan Wood CPA Firm, and was a Financial Advisor with Edward Jones and A.G. Edwards. He touched the lives of people of all ages and shared his wisdom. Alan was an avid golfer. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, and friend to all that knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of eleven years, Connie Wood, daughter, Tara Lin Wood Jelley (Richard), son, Daniel (Carlee) Farmer and five beautiful granddaughters, Caroline Jelley, Susannah Jelley, Kathryn Jelley, LindyAnn Jelley and Autumn Jelley, good-looking grandsons, Tyler Farmer, Carter Farmer and soon to be, Christian Alan Farmer, siblings, Marcia (Wayne) Templeton, Laurence Wood, Joy (Roger) Hencley and numerous nieces and nephews.
