John Thomas Williams, III “Tommy”, 79, passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at his home. Tommy was born on September 6, 1942, in Cordele, Georgia to John Thomas Williams, Jr. and Evelyn Wells Williams.
Tommy and his beloved wife, Barbara Browne Nimnicht, met while attending Mercer University. At Mercer, Tommy was the Commander of the Signa Nu fraternity, and Barbara was a Sigma Nu sweetheart. He was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan, and she was an equally avid Florida Gators fan which made for an interesting household. Their marriage lasted 46 years until her passing in 2012.
Professionally, Tommy was the owner and operator of Macon Tom’s Sales, Inc. He was a member of Forest Hills United Methodist Church and was active in his community including being a member of the Macon Exchange Club, Macon Elks Club and Macon Touch Down Club.
Tommy was predeceased by his parents and his wife. He is survived by his son, Dr. John Thomas Williams, IV (Amanda), daughter, Margaret Elizabeth Williams, 7 grandchildren: Caitlyn Grace Williams, John Thomas Williams, V, Jackson Taylor Williams, Stella Jean Williams, Oliver Wells Williams, Megan Elizabeth Driussi and Nicolas Driussi, his brothers, Randy Williams (Carol) and Michael Williams (Freda) and several much loved nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00pm Sunday, October 17, 2021, at Forest Hills United Methodist Church with Reverend Teresa Edwards officiating. The family will greet friends at 1:00pm until the time of the service. Burial will be private at Sunnyside Cemetery, Cordele, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Arthritis Foundation, Forest Hills United Methodist Church, or the Methodist Home for Children and Youth of Macon.
