John David Sharp passed away peacefully at home on May 31, 2021, at the age of 89, surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his mother, Lyda Mae Sharp; father and step-mother, Lanie G. and Charline C. Sharp; sister, Betty Sharp Tate; brother-in-law, Bill Tate; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Burnice Yelverton; brother-in-law, Jack Yelverton; and sons-in-law Roger Smith and Daniel Sareñana.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Sue Yelverton Sharp; children, Linda Sareñana, Don Sharp (Sherry), Karen Smith, and Paul Sharp (Kathy); grandchildren, Taylor Sareñana (Ashley), Natalie Sareñana Perger (Paul), Jessica Durden, Shea Sharp (Lindsie), Eric Ottrock, Savannah Sharp, Paige Jensen (Tyler), Casi Berry (Jason), Micah Smith (Jackie) and 15 great-grandchildren.
John served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He retired from Cherokee National Life Insurance Company in Macon, GA. He was a member of the First Evangelical Church in Macon, GA and formerly the Shurlington Church of the Nazarene in Macon. He enjoyed traveling, being with his family, and watching college football – especially the Georgia Bulldogs. He also loved to play golf and was a member of several golf associations, including the Middle Georgia Senior Golf Association.

Visitation with the family will be held at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home, 3969 Mercer University Dr., Macon, GA 31204 on Thursday, June 3, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, June 4, 2021 at 2:00 o’clock at First Evangelical Church, 3601 Fulton Mill Rd, Macon GA 31206. Interment will follow service at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Paul Anderson Youth Home, Vidalia, GA, First Evangelical Church, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
