Joe Darrell Hammonds, Jr., age 67, of Warner Robins, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, after battle with brain cancer. A Prayer Service will be held at 4:00 PM Friday, November 24, 2023 at Snow's Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street, and a visitation will follow 4:30 PM until 6:00 PM. Interment will be at a later date in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the St. Peter Claver Church Food Pantry, 131 Ward Street, Macon 31201.
Joe was born in Macon, Georgia and was the son of the late Mary Ann Hatcher Hammonds and Joe D. Hammonds, Sr. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kellie Hammonds, and sister, Beth McIlmail. Joe attended and played college football at Marion Military Institute and Jacksonville State University in Alabama. Joe retired from Civil Service after 34 years at Robins Air Force Base, and he was a member of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church.
Joe was a loving father and grandfather. He coached recreational sports for his children, and officiated local high school football for many years. Joe was a huge fan of University of Alabama football and loved fishing and spending time with his family.
Joe is survived by his wife, Gina F. Hammonds of Warner Robins; son, J. Darrell Hammonds III (Jessica) of High Springs, Fl; daughter, Amanda L. Hammonds of Warner Robins; and son, William A. Hammonds of Macon; grandson, Riley Hammonds; sister, Kathy Bateman; several nieces and nephews.
