Joan was born in Bonaire, Georgia to the late James Franklin, Sr. and Maddie Florence Keys. She graduated from Miller High School. With the exception of the last several months, Joan lived her entire life in Macon, GA. No matter what bad situation was happening in her life, she always found the silver lining. During her life she lost three husbands and her son, but she always bounced back from each tragic loss with a new-found optimistic look on life. And she taught others around her to find the same optimism no matter what situation they were dealing with. Joan was an inspiration to so many throughout her life. Young or old she was able to connect with people, and once she connected, she was never forgotten.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, James Franklin and Maddie Florence Keys; first husband, Elton Elwood Lowe; second husband, Carl Thanette Wilson; third husband, Samuel Keen Ellington; son, Michael Elton Lowe; brothers, James F. Keys and Grover P. Keys.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son in law, Sherri and Markham White of Ellijay, Georgia; daughter in law, Holly Lowe of Centerville, Georgia; sister, Faye and Phil Peterson of Warner Robins, Georgia; brother, Harold and Flo Keys of Macon, Georgia; many loving nieces, nephews and lifelong friends, in which there are too many to mention.
