James Harold “Sawbuck” Sawyer, 94, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on October 17, 2018. A Celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Joe McDaniel officiating. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. to service time at the funeral home.
Harold was born in Macon, Georgia to the late John Henry and Hattie Wilcox Sawyer. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Alvin Sawyer, Everett Sawyer, Helen Sawyer Carter, Dorothy Sawyer Bagwell and Francis Sawyer Hall. A graduate of Lanier High School, he served in the Army/Air Corp during World War II. Following his service to our country, he worked for forty seven years at Robins Air Force Base. He often asked anyone he met, “Are you a member of the Credit Union?” He proudly served on the Board at Robins Federal Credit Union for 53 years. Harold was an active member of Pine Forest Baptist Church, serving as Sunday School Director and various committees throughout the years. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Sawyer, children, Chris (Ann) Kerley, Ginger Gochenour and Sirena Fritz, grandchildren, Kyle and Brandon Gochenour, Jarred (Caitlynn) Kerley, Jordan Kerley, and Jackson, Bella, and Brayden Fritz.
