James “Jimmy” Hoover Herndon, Jr., 67, of St Simons Island departed his life Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at SGHS Brunswick Campus. Memorial services will be conducted at 1 pm Friday, July 15, 2022 at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, 746 Cherry St., Macon, Georgia 31201. Dr. Laudis H. "Rick" Lanford will officiate. The family will greet friends following the service.
Born June 22, 1955 in Macon, Georgia to the late James Hoover Herndon Sr., and Addie Kay H. Herndon, he was a 1973 Graduate of Lanier High School in Macon and attended Troy State University where he played football. Mr. Herndon was the owner of J. Herndon Realty LLC on St. Simons Island and had been a Realtor for 20 years. He attended Wesley United Methodist Church and been a resident of St. Simons Island since 2001. Jimmy was an avid fisherman and participated in numerous tournaments. He also was a pit master and enjoyed golf. He owned a commercial and residential construction company for over 45 years, building award winning homes including the first Southern Living Showcase Home in Macon.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Veta Hill Herndon of St. Simons Island, three children, Jarret Hill and wife Canon of Macon, James Herndon and wife Mandi of Decatur, and Katie Herndon of Macon, six grandchildren, Houston Hill, Mackenzie Herndon, Colin Bennett, Tanner Hill, Luke Bennett, and Charlotte Herndon, two brothers, Ken Herndon and wife Cathy of Macon, and Mike Herndon and wife Diane of Statesboro, a sister, Lisa Cohen and husband Morris of Augusta, and several nieces and nephews.
Snow's Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street, has charge of arrangements.
