Ernest Doyle Kelly

Ernest Doyle Kelly, age 73, passed away July 11, 2022, at Atrium Health Navicent in Macon, Georgia, surrounded by family. He was born October 24, 1948, in Cedar Grove, TN to the late Ernest Dwayne Kelly and Ollita Pendergrass Kelly. He is survived by his wife of fifty two years, Janis Smith Kelly, his children, John Patrick Kelly (Jennifer) and Jennifer Kelly Fruitticher (Lee) of Macon; sister, Gail Kelly Keel (David) of McLemoresville, TN, brother, Dean Kelly (Stephanie) of Cedar Grove, TN and sister, Judy Kelly Keen (Mickey) of Cedar Grove, TN; grandchildren who he loved dearly, Andrew Patrick Kelly (Drew), Katherine Kelly Fruitticher (Kate), Robert Evans Fruitticher (Rob), William Daley Fruitticher (Will), and Benjamin Conwell Kelly (Ben). Mr. Kelly is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and other family.

Mr. Kelly graduated from Trezevant High School in 1966 and served in the Army in the 101st Airborne (Screaming Eagles). He served a tour of duty in Vietnam from 1968-1970 and earned a Combat Infantry Badge and Bronze Star. Doyle returned home and graduated from the University of Tennessee-Martin where he received a Bachelors Degree in Marketing. He went on to work for Cherokee National Life in Macon for over 30 years before forming his own insurance brokerage Kelly and Associates in 2005.

Doyle was involved in the leadership of numerous organizations including among others: Macon Touchdown Club, Sertoma Club, Stratford Booster Club, Consumer Credit Insurance Association, Georgia Installment Leaders Association, and member of the North Macon Shoe Clerks. Doyle recently received an award from GILA, the S.M. Crisler Award for his distinguished service. At his death, he was President of his homeowners association in Hilton Head. He was an avid golfer at Idle Hour Country Club and he enjoyed bird hunting with friends and his dog Beau.

A funeral service for Mr. Kelly will be held Saturday, July 16, 2022, at 4:00 P.M., at Vineville Baptist Church with Dr. Richard Kremer officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family prior to the service from 2:00 – 3:30 P.M. at the church. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to either Stratford Academy, 6010 Peake Road, Macon GA 31220 or Vineville Baptist Church, 2591 Vineville Avenue, Macon GA 31204.
