Services to honor his life will be held on Monday, February 20th, 2023. Visitation will be at 1:00 pm followed by services at 2:00 pm at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis TN 38105 or Methodist Children's Home, 304 Pierce Ave., Macon GA 31204.
Drexel was born in Macon, Georgia to Otto H. and Agnes L. Shelton. He attended Lanier High School. Drexel served as a Private First Class in the Army during the Korean War. After he returned home from the Army, he worked as an electrician for Wilson Electric. He worked for Barney A. Smith Lincoln Mercury as the used car manager for 33 years. Drexel and his wife Carolyn, attended Forest Hill United Methodist Church and were members of the Grace Bible Class.
Athletes who attended Tattnall Square Academy during the 1980’s and 1990’s knew Drexel to be a selfless volunteer for the football and baseball programs. His devotion to the athletic programs was an inspiration to many of the young athletes who knew and spent time with him.
Anyone who knew Drexel, knew he loved NASCAR, Fishing, Hunting, and spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed reminiscing and sharing stories of his youth, his service in Germany during the Korean war, and his days as mechanic on the GASCAR racing circuit. He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He was admired for his loyalty, goodness, and humility.
He was preceded in death by his father, Otto H. Shelton, his mother, Agnes L.Shelton, his brothers Quitman O. Shelton, Calvin L. Shelton, William O. Shelton.
He leaves behind his wife of 68 years, Carolyn H. Shelton, his daughter, Deanna S. Fanning, his grandson, Alexander J. Fanning, his sister Polly S. Amerson, his nieces, Denise Goings and Brenda Dunn, his nephews, Bill Shelton, Brian Shelton, Chris Shelton and Kevin Shelton, and numerous great nieces and nephews.
