Mrs. Doe Brown Watson, a lifelong resident of Macon, Georgia, died on Monday, April 24. Mrs. Watson was born to Mr. & Mrs. William Merrell Brown. She was a graduate of A. L. Miller High School for Girls and Mercer University. While attending Mercer, Mrs. Watson was a member of Cardinal Key Honor Society and Chi Omega Fraternity. She taught junior and senior high school English at Tattnall Square Academy for twenty-three years. Beloved by her students, she was named Star Teacher many times during her teaching career.
For many years, Mrs. Watson was a member of Bass United Methodist Church where she taught Young Adult Sunday School classes. Most recently, she was a member of Martha Bowman United Methodist church.
Mrs. Watson was an ardent lover of all animals. She was the mother and caregiver of many stray dogs who were lucky enough to find their way to her home. Most memorable to Mrs. Watson was “Pupdog,” who was adored by ten senior classes at Tattnall Academy and who held the distinction of being able to stay awake during all of Mrs. Watson’s English lectures.
Mrs. Watson predeceased by her husband Walter. C. Watson, III, of Macon, Georgia; her daughter, Betty-Ware Watson Wray of Statesboro, Georgia; and her sister, Bettie Ware Moore of Macon, Georgia. She is survived by her daughter, Millie Watson Jones of Forsyth; sons-in-law Stephen E. Jones of Forsyth; and Charles T. Wray (Kelly Klotz Wray) of Statesboro. She is also survived by her precious grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who were truly the lights of her life: Walter Charles Wray (Jenny Deloach Wray) of Statesboro, Georgia; Carter Lee Wray (Abby Keeter Wray), of Jacksonville, Florida; Merritt Jones Graves (Justin Graves) of Pooler, Georgia; Holland Louisa Jones of Atlanta, Georgia; Evan Westemeier, Adelynn Grace Wray and Walker Cole Wray, of Statesboro, Georgia. She is also survived by her beloved friend, Pat Jenkins, with whom she taught for twenty-two years and with whom she shared the very best and hardest times of their lives; each loving and supporting the other no matter what life had placed before them. She has left behind numerous devoted caregivers whose days were always brightened by her smile and declarations of her love for them and her appreciation of their beauty.
A Celebration of her Life will be held at 12:00 Noon, Friday, April 28, 2023, at Martha Bowman United Methodist Church with visitation beginning at 11:00 am. The Rev. Dr. David Seyle and Rev. Fran Magoni will offiicate. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Watson requested donations be made to any local pet rescue agency or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
