Charles Raymond Harris passed away peacefully at home on September 23, 2023. A rosary will be held 6:00pm, Friday, at Snow’s Memorial Chapel on Cherry Street. A funeral mass will be held 12:00pm Saturday, September 30, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Macon. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
Raymond was born December 9, 1932, in Newberry, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Curtis Harris and Ida Bell Harris and was also preceded in death his first wife of forty-two years: Grace Harris and by his brother: Vernon Harris. Raymond was a graduate of Newberry High School as well as Newberry College with a Bachelor of Science degree. He honorably served his country with the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Raymond retired from Crawford & Company after thirty-five years while serving in management in Savannah, Waycross and Macon and was a past president of the Macon Claims Association.
Raymond was a dedicated member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church where he served as an acolyte for many years, was a former president of The Parish Council and served as chairperson of The Nazareth Home. In 2020, he was awarded the Bishop Gartland Service Award for service in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Savannah.
Raymond is survived by his wife of twenty-four years: Roza Harris; sons: Fletcher Harris of Macon, Dan Harris (Pam) of Macon and Kevin Harris (Genie) of Birmingham, Alabama; stepchildren: Paulina Greene Stone (Buddy) and Jon Greene, both of Gray; grandchildren: Catherine Herold (Mike) of Sharpsburg, Georgia, Daniel Harris of Atlanta, Georgia, Grace Harris of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Alastair Harris and Asa Harris, both of Birmingham, Alabama; great-grandchildren: Liam Herold and Conner Herold; and by his first cousin: Virginia Thomas of Atlanta, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Kolbe Center or to the donor’s favorite charity.
The family would like to thank the nurses and therapists of Atrium Navicent at Home for their exceptional care during these difficult times.
