Charles Kenneth Giles, 62, passed away at home on Sunday, July 19, 2015, after an extended illness. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, July 24, 2015 at 4:00 p.m., in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Mausoleum with Rev. Audrey E. George. The family will greet friends on Thursday, July 23, 2015, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home and on Friday, July 24, 2015, from 3:00 p.m. to service time in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Care Options, Brookie Bear Foundation, 486 New St, Macon, GA 31201 or your charity of choice.
Charles was born in Macon, Georgia to Shirley Grant Giles and the late Fred Roy Giles. He was preceded in death by a son, Brian Keith Giles. Charles served in the United States Army and was retired from Robins Air Force Base. Charles served on the security detail for the Aquatics Complex for the Olympics in 1996. He was very active with the Macon-Bibb County EMA, #499. He was President of Volunteers for Macon-Bibb EMA for several years. Charles was involved in the flood relief of 1994 and gave endless hours to those in need. He was also involved with Vintage Macon and Amateur Radio. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and uncle.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Lee Haag Giles of Macon; daughters, Beth Giles (Josh McLemore) of Austell, Becki Brannen (Jason) of Macon; mother, Shirley Grant Giles of Macon; grandchildren, Anna, Emma, and Olivia; siblings, Fred (Linda) Giles of Taylors, SC, Gloria Hood of Macon, Ron (Lisa) Giles of Macon; and several nieces and nephews.
