James Carl Williams, 86, passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2015. His condition gradually rendered him unable to speak, yet even in his last days, his loving and kind nature shone through as he could wink and smile. The consummate gentleman, Mr. Williams was known for his stern reliability, principles and strength of character, yet he was the first to laugh with a fantastic sense of humor and a love of life and family. He was a true role model and he will be missed.
After graduating from Dublin high school, he moved to Macon where he lived for sixty five years. Throughout this time, he enlisted in the Georgia National Guard 121st Infantry Division “The Old Grey Bonnet” in January 1949. Later he became an officer, a fixed and rotary wing pilot, and retired as Lt. Colonel in June 1970. His civilian career was with United Auto (Broadway), Macon Public Works Water Department, and Tripp Chemicals. He spent most of his career as the COO and partner of American Office Equipment Company in Macon, GA from which he retired in 1988. Already having travelled the world, he thoroughly enjoyed his retirement – golfing, fishing, hunting and frequenting Jekyll Island.
Mr. Williams was the loving husband of the late Marion Alice Williams for sixty five years. He was the son of the late Will Rainsley and Jennie Raffield Williams of Dublin, GA. He was the youngest of his siblings and was preceded in death by Dorothy Bryant and Jeanette Nobles.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael "Mick" and Connie Dingler Williams of Rome; his granddaughters, Michelle Williams of Atlanta and Summer Williams of London, UK; his brother Dr. William "Bill" Williams, Jr. of Guyton, GA; his nieces Sheryl Bryant Vogt, Denise Williams Driggers, and Jennifer Williams Andrews; his nephews, Jeff Williams, Donald "Don" Hanner, and Joel Hanner.
Funeral services to honor his life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday at Bloomfield United Methodist Church with burial in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Williams' pastor the Rev. Cile Mitchell will officiate. The family will meet friends from 12:45 to 1:45 PM Saturday in the Sanctuary. They ask that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Bloomfield United Methodist Church, 5511 Bloomfield Road, Macon 31206 or to the Brain Research Foundation at https://www.thebrf.org.
