Anita Ruth Sharp Smith, 77, died Friday February 9, 2024 after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at 2 pm at Snow’s Memorial Chapel on Bass Road with The Reverend Dee Ann de Montmollin and Mrs. LaVonne Harn officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 pm until the time of the service. Burial will be private.
Nita was born in Bainbridge, GA on July 23, 1946 to Ollen Wilford Sharp and Edna Taylor Sharp. Nita grew up in Hopeful, GA, a farming community in Mitchell County, GA. She was a graduate of the Mitchell County High School class of 1964. She attended Mercer University and was a graduate of the Macon Hospital School of Nursing class of 1967. After graduation, Nita began her nursing career at The Macon Hospital. Through her dedication and compassion for her patients, she went on to become the head nurse of the Intensive Care Unit and contributed to the design of the unit itself. After 37 years of service, Nita retired from the medical field. During her 37 year career at The Medical Center, Nita also worked in the Cath Lab, Risk Management, and served on The Credentialing Committee.
Nita was a member of Forest Hills Church and a former member of the Macon Junior Woman’s Club, having served as co-chairman of Project Smile. In addition, she was a member of various nursing organizations.
She was one of six children and loved spending time and laughing with her family. In addition to family, Nita loved reading, horse racing, and Alabama football.
Nita was predeceased by her parents Ollen and Edna Sharp, her brothers David Sharp, Ollen Sharp Jr., and Stanley Sharp.
Nita is survived by her loving husband of 55 years Reginald Smith, daughter Amy Smith Fox (David) of Auburn, AL, granddaughter Elizabeth Fox of Auburn, AL, sisters Teresa Tidwell of Macon, GA, Sue Faucett of Warner Robins, GA, and her brother Mark Sharp (Lisa) of Whigham, GA and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to the charity of your choice or Nita’s favorite charity St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
