Penny Shockley, 73, passed away Friday, March 1, 2019 at Medina Nursing Center in Durand, IL, due to complications from dementia. She was born in Rockford, IL, on January 26, 1946 to Kenneth and Elsie (Stone) Strand. Penny married Ed Shockley on April 17, 1971 in Loves Park, IL. They moved out to the country north of Shirland, IL on a farm, where they raised their children and were foster parents to numerous kids. Penny was very talented with sewing and crafts, often creating her own patterns and craft ideas. She often created her own recipes. Penny was Pinterest before Pinterest came along. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. Penny was member of Berean Baptist Church in Beloit, WI.
Penny is loved and missed by her husband of 47 years, Ed, of Medina Nursing Center; daughters, Jodi (Martin) Boren of Bullard, TX; Jill (Robert) Shockley of Loves Park, IL; Julie Shockley; and son, Nathan (Amy) Shockley of Shirland, IL; grandchildren, Marshall, Jordan, and Jakab Shockley and Lydia Boren; sister, Shirley Bartelson; one niece and 4 nephews. Penny was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Bonnie Borrett, brother-in-laws, Vernon Borrett and Donald Bartelson.
A visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 4, 2019 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115 with a funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Kelvin Swanson officiating. Entombment at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the family.
