Nils Amdal, born August 7, 1926 in Stavanger, Norway, son of Sigrud N. and Cecilie (Johanson) Amdal. Nils’s life changed as a child on April of 1940 when the German Nazi occupied Norway. Nils immigrated to the U.S. under the sponsorship of his Uncle Lars Tastad of Rochelle, IL after WWII in April of 1947. He became a naturalized citizen in 1959. Nils was a hard working self-taught man. He was employed by Elco Tool and Screw Co. on Broadway in early 1948 and retired from Elco Industries on Samuelson Road in late 1987. Nils married Else A. Hagland on November 4, 1948. Nils married Claudette Winquist Johnson on October 9, 1970. Nils enjoyed woodworking, camping, traveling and square dancing. Survivors include his children: Terry (Joy) Amdal, Judy (Tom) Pell and Carl (Denise) Amdal; grandchildren Traci (Leonard) Gallagher, Shawn (Natalie) Amdal, Nicki (Andy) Cottrell, Ryan (Lindsay) Pell and Nick (Tami) Amdal; great-grandchildren: Bentley Gallagher, Blake and Cole Amdal, Krystle Moore, Taylor and Hannah Middleton, Brooke and Devon Cottrell, Mya Pell and Olivia Amdal; great-great grandson Jorden Middleton; step-children: Mark (Susan) Johnson and Craig (Robyn) Johnson; step-grandchildren: Alek, Quinn and Abbey Johnson, Cameron , Jaime, Austen Johnson; sister Sigrunn Amdal ; his cousin Larry Tastad and family; nieces and nephews in WI and many nieces, nephews and cousins in Norway.
Nils was preceded in death by infant son Eric N. and in Norway his parents, infant brother Johan, infant sister Ruth, sister Astri and sister Johanne Skinnes of WI and nephew Leif.
